Hi, I am having ceramic salt & pepper shakers as favors for my guests. I read in some of the posts that you shouldn't have one favor per couple--although this is a large and costly favor. I am ok with giving one per person, but how about children? For example, I'm inviting a family of four (2 adults, 2 children) to the wedding, is it really appropriate for them to go home w/ four salt & pepper shakers? These are practical favors that can actually be used by them, not just as a decore. Please help! Thank you in advance.

Hello there, it is not necessary to give one favor to each member of a family. You can give a set of shakers to each couple and if you have single guests, give one set to each. Children would not get the same favor.

In the etiquette world, though, if we are handing out favors, we would give one to each guest. These don't have to be the same favor for children though. It would be a penalty for married people if the single guest receives a set of shakers and yet the couple (two guests) only receive one set.
