Hi, my wedding is coming up in July and I always wanted to wear gloves for my wedding. Is there a certain kind of gloves more appropriate for a summer wedding? (for ex., open or closed for fingers, certain length, etc.) For your information, the ceremony is held in church at 2 pm, reception to follow that evening at 6 pm until 11. Thanks!

I'm not the attire expert, but I can pipe in on the etiquette involved.

Your glove should be in the same formality as your gown and the time of day. A short glove would probably be best unless your wedding is formal. The "rule" is the shorter the sleeve, the longer the glove. So, take this into consideration as well.

The problem I see is that you are keeping your guests waiting too long. If the reception is held on the same day as the wedding, it should be held very soon afterward. Asking your guests to wait hours, is impolite. Hopefully you have arranged some activity for them.

Excellent comment from Rebecca about timing considerations for your wedding. Something to really think about! As for the gloves, if you want to definitely wear gloves (July is a pretty warm month so you might be a little uncomfortable!), if your dress has any lace trim or embroidery, you might opt for the open-fingers gloves trimmed in the same fashion as the dress. This way you won't be too uncomfortable. The length of the gloves depends on the formality of your wedding and your dress. For a formal evening wedding, the elbow length would be appropriate. Enjoy!
