How to submerge roses for a wedding centerpiece

I would like to use roses submerged in cylinder vases. I am on a tight budget so would like to do them myself. I purchased all the vases and attempted to do a demo at home to see how they would look. Big problem.... I could not figure out how to stop the roses from floating. I tried to hot glue them and it didn't work. Any ideas?

Try to add rocks in the base of the vase and place the roses within the rocks. You could also try using a frog to keep the stems in place. A frog is a floral device which has a bed on pins that the flower stem is inserted in to hold the flower in place. You might be able to find these at a local craft store or florist shop.

Clear marbles and fishing line to keep them down are all I can suggest. Sew the line through the rose stems and net them around about 5 marbles with some tulle or mesh...then fill with marbles to hide the mechanics...its all kind of a pain.
You might also consider using floating candles to hold them down..but they may still win the floating contest.
Ever thought of using orchids? They are a lot easier to do this way..and look great!
Good luck!
