I just got engaged, am very excited and started looking at venues and such. But, my fiance (a US Marine) is heading to Afghanistan for 10 months. He won't be back until February 2010 (a whole year away).
Do I start planning without him? Or should I wait until he gets back to really start planning and booking things?
I want the wedding in Massachusetts and I really want to get married outside (anytime between May and Sept), but I don't want to plan everything now and then have the government send him back to Afghanistan before the wedding date (that would ruin EVERYTHING!) And I want him to be a part of the planning process (cake tastings and such). I don't want to do it all by myself!
What do I do? [unsure]

Groom is being deployed. When do I start planning the wedding?

Dear Katem,
This is a personal matter, which you will have to decide for yourself. But, it may be best to wait until you know more about his schedule. Everything may change within a year. You may have to plan something that is very informal, so the date may be changed easily.
Best wishes,

I agree. Check with your service providers to see if they would allow you to change your dates should your husband's schedule get rearranged. Most should, but many won't give refunds unless the date gets re-booked. Read all your contracts carefully.
