My fiance and I met at college in Tennessee and also fell in love with our school's traditions and scenery. We both live in Alabama (him North and me South), though. My parents who are footing the traditional bills expect and want our wedding to be held in my hometown where I have a lot of family friends (older and church members). His family says they will be willing to go to either place because the distance is generally the same.

I really would love a wedding at our college chapel, but I'm afraid my parent's won't budge, and no one from my hometown will attend (6 hour drive). I'm already stressed, and we haven't even set a date!

Dear Eilyak,

Parents are no longer financially responsible for their children's weddings, so anything they contribute is a gift. But, many still want a say in where the wedding is held, especially when the parents are very traditional. So, if you want your wedding somewhere else, it may be best to host it yourself. Of course, you could ask them first.

Best wishes,
