We are having an outdoor wedding at 5:00 pm followed by appetizers while photos are being made. After that we plan to have the traditional presentation of the bridal party and dances followed by a buffet meal. After that we have a band until 10:00 pm. We have been told that it is rude to have guests wait for the meal and that it should be served immediately so the guests won't have to wait to eat. I thought that was the point of appetizers. I have been to so many wedding that the bridal party gets what is left over or nothing. Since it is a meal and not heavy appetizers should we wait to begin serving until after the bridal party arrives?

You have planned it perfectly. Whoever tells you that it is rude has not been to a formal wedding in a while. Your guests are entertained and fed at the cocktail hour. Relax and get your photos done but don't plan to get much of the appetizers yourself...

I agree. This is fine and courteous. It would be rude to make your guests wait if they had no food or entertainment. This is not the case here.
