I'm the oldest sister of the groom. Our parents are deceased and have been for many years. I have been the sister he comes to for everything since mom and dad died. He knows I'll do anything for him, within reason. I was told recently that they are having a Jack and Jill shower instead of a bridal shower or stag. I don't have a problem with that except I was requested to make food for the shower and then my husband, my 2 boys and I would have to pay $20.00 for tickets to this shower. I'm sorry, but I've never heard of such a thing. I was really dissappointed and on top of it get a gift? Could you please help me to understand this and tell me what kind of part I should or shouldn't play in this wedding.

There could be no way I could help you understand selling tickets to a party where you're expected to also bring a gift. It's impolite. Just say no. Perhaps offer the host of the event an etiquette book or lead her over to us. Most people are going to feel exactly as you feel.

Please read the many posts we have on who pays for the shower.

This is beyond impolite. They, the couple, shouldn't have anything to do with the planning of a gift giving party for themselves. And, to sell tickets for admission is just plain greedy. The couple chose to marry, they shouldn't expect that others "want" to spend their hard earned cash to supplement their decision. They should feel honored if wedding guests wish to give them a gift for the wedding, which is generally expected.
