I got my wedding rings from my mother who has an extensive collection of jewelry. The wedding band is an 18k yellow gold plain band in comfort fit. It was my grandmothers and has special family history behind it. I'm very proud to have it now.

The engagement ring was bought as a match for my mothers wedding band after her original engagement ring was damaged. She hasn't worn it in some time as she now has a very fancy white gold set on her finger, so it was handed down to me. The engagement ring is 14k yellow gold with a excellent diamond. However, it is a wider band and not a comfort fit. I was supposed to be having it sized and have been keeping my grandmothers wedding band on the outside to keep it safely on my finger till then. However, due to some health problems, my fingers can swell, making my sometimes loose engagement ring very tight. Now I don't want to have it resized as I'm concerned that it will become unwearable for me if my fingers are all swollen. I've also become fairly comfortable with my engagement ring on the inside.

I'd like to be able to wear my engagement ring on the inside and my wedding band to the outside when I am married, whether I get it re-sized or not. Is this ok? I'm well aware this is not the traditional way of wearing them...how out of line would that be? Is this a really bad thing or a choice of preference and physical comfort that a woman is allowed to make on her own? It looks best and feels best that way to me.

Hi,

I highly recommend forgoing convention altogether and doing what is comfortable.

"It looks best and feels best that way to me." -- That's all that needs to be said.
