Currently, my wedding is scheduled for Noon, and I plan to have a lunch immediately following.

Is it appropriate to also invite the same guest list out for informal drinks later that evening? I am thinking that I might host an open bar for an hour, and then have it become a cash bar. It would likely be at a local pub that would also be open to the public at the time. Is this acceptable as far as etiquette is concerned? To take it a step further, might I casually invite additional local friends to join the late night party even if I do not invite them to the wedding/lunch?

Dear Phxgirl,

Because you are host, you would be expected to provide the entire party for all of your guests. So, the way to get around this (so there are no negatives) you could mention that you and your new hubby will be going out to XXX later that evening. If anyone wants to come, you'd buy the first round. Then you are not inviting; you are informing friends where you will be later. What wouldn't be polite is to invite (or even inform) friends not invited to the wedding to your evening activities. This would be like reminding them that they weren't "good enough" for the main part of the party.

Best wishes,
