How can I convince my parents that it is usual for bridal boutiques to only have samples in size 8-12?
I am a street size 16/18 and I cannot fit into any samples the bridal shop has to try on, so I've been putting them up to my body and looking at them that way. My parents say that they won't bother buying me a dress if I can't try it on.
HELP! How can I explain to them that this is just the way it is and plus size women need to buy the dress and then have it altered?

Most wedding dresses need to be altered for any size bride, whether it's the hem tucks in the bust or waist, etc. Very few of us have the perfect figure or the figure the dress designers deem perfect.
A good bridal shop salesperson should be able to help you to "try on" sample dresses. Ask your mom to come along, if possible, so she can see the process. This is pretty typical for the mom.

Call larger bridal retailer ahead of time and find out if they have larger sizes for you to try on. If yes, make an appointment. If not, ask the sales person to explain it to your mom; leave it to a retail professional to explain how their store operates and what sizes they have available to try on. Many of my clients are in sizes way larger than 12! Believe me, they all got married wearing gorgeous dresses! Good luck to you!

I totally agree; working with a respected shop, letting them know your needs may provide you and your parents with the reassurance each of you needs.
