Wedding cancelled, then back on - How to handle wording/everything!

My fiance got cold feet three months before our wedding. We split up for 3 months and then got back together and have opened up a whole new phase of our relationship. We're dealing with his family issues being a bigger part of our lives than necessary. We haven't set the date yet but when we decide to, how do I handle the invitations? We had sent out save the dates for a destination wedding across the country but not formal invites. I am afraid people will think badly of us or not take us seriously. Do I just start over with save the dates, then invitations, and cross my fingers? I'm hoping real friends and family will understand our situation. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Dear Shalimar,
It may be best to personally discuss your plans with your friends and family. A card really doesn't explain much and can appear cold. And, a save the date card is optional. It is helpful in the case of a destination wedding though.
I hope you sent a formal card stating that the wedding had been canceled the first go around. This is important. If not, you really should talk to all your guests this time around.
Best wishes,

Thank you. I guess I didn't explain that very well. I have and will explain the details to all my friends and family. I guess my bigger question is whether or not we can ever have a "normal" wedding experience after dealing with something like this.

Right on Rebecca. The main thing to remember here is that these are your family and friends and I am sure that they would understand and indeed want you to take the extra time to work things out. Yes, you can have a normal wedding. Set it up properly and then enjoy planning...don't look back.
Best,
Best,
