What are your thoughts on using a DJ for the wedding ceremony -- ceremony is at 4:00 PM at an outside gazebo venue? Looks like plans for string quartet might not work out and DJ is backup plan. Same DJ as reception is doing sound for wedding and is able to provide music if necessary. Alot of planning has been invested in the wedding and reception and I would hate for it to appear tacky if DJ is used in place of live musicians for wedding. Please help.

In my planning experience there have been several times that a DJ has been used for a ceremony. Sometimes the bride and groom have very special songs that they want involved in their ceremony and only a DJ can provide the necessary music.
You would want the DJ to have just speakers, discretly setup near the ceremony and have the music setup elsewhere. You'll want to see if he has wireless speakers, in order for this to work. Then you can have him play any songs you'd like, even classical music, that could replicate the sounds of a quartet, as long as the speakers aren't out in the open, it won't even be noticed.

Happy Planning!
