My daughter just wants a very small wedding. Just the two immediate families. She doesn't want a bigger party later. She is going to send out a cute card announcing her marriage after the fact. Is this socially ok to do?

If this is what she truly wants then it is her decision. Ask her to be sure she doesn't want any sort of party since there are no do-over weddings and we do see many brides who later regret not having the big white wedding.
It's refreshing to hear about someone who isn't all about the gifts and the attention, though.

I agree and also don't want your daughter to regret later that she didn't have her party. As long as she is sure it's what she really wants, just enjoy.

I also agree. And, this is socially acceptable.

It is very refreshing to hear about someone who isn't interested in multiple gifts. Bravo Mom. Good job parenting!
