Is it okay for the bride and groom to use a registry if they're only having a courthouse ceremony and having a reception later? Or would it be considered rude? There is no engagement party, bridal shower, etc.

The couple can register, but no one is obligated to give them a gift. Plus, the reception isn't the gift giving event. Some may want to give a gift anyway.

It isn't polite to mention the registry unless people ask.
