Junior Bridesmaid Dress Sizes Don't Fit

Hello, here is my dilemma. I have 2 Jr. Bridesmaids that will both be 12 years old. I picked out a Jr. dress for them that was more appropriate for their age. My bridesmaids dresses just don't seem appropriate for girls their age. The problem is that one of the Junior bridesmaids is sadly a little over weight for her age and the dress I picked out doesn't come in her size. The other Jr. bridesmaid is slender so would have a problem fitting into a regular adult size dress. I would like them to be in the same dress, but I am not sure what to do. I thought about offering her a different role so that she could still be apart of the wedding, but wouldn't have to worry about the dress. Is it inappropriate for me to ask her to do something else? Or should I just have them in different dresses?

If you won't be too upset over the issue, then you should just choose the same color and fabric, but allow them to wear different styles. If you really would be much happier with them in the same style dress, then either find a manufacturer (like myself) who offers gowns in a wide range of sizes (0-28) and a variety of lengths. This way you can get the longer, adult size for the larger girl and a shorter size 0 for the slender girl. There are plenty of styles to choose that would look wonderful on any body type, but they will not look identical in the gowns no matter how hard you try.

I'll definitely agree with Liz. Try to just go with the same color dress or same style, but if it doesn't come in her size, don't make it a big deal and certainly don't exclude her from the wedding because she wasn't "small" enough to fit into a dress. While this is a very big day of your life, telling a young girl that she's too big for your wedding, would be something she could have to live with for a long time. Whatever you do make it discreet and don't share the reason with too many people, so there is no chance it gets back to the young girl. JR Bridesmaids are really an optional position in a wedding party so if you were going to consider eliminating the concept, you'd have to move BOTH of them to another task (such as passing out programs, guest book signing or holding the door for all of the guests).

Excellent advice from both experts! There plenty of choices of different style dresses in the same color and fabric. Don't exclude the girl from your bridal party: that would be devastating for her! Find the right dresses for them and enjoy the wedding!

Young girls have enough trouble with body image these days so I agree with everyone and do whatever you have to do to make the young lady comfortable in her dress. Having the same color and fabric with an altered style seems like a great choice. Perhaps you can find a local seamstress to construct special dresses for these two?
