My fiance' and I have narrowed it down to 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsman, is this too many? We are planning on having a huge guest-list.

Tell us a little more about your wedding including time of day and type of venue.

We are getting married in my church, it has seating for at least 500, which we will probably be close to with all our family and friends.

Not sure yet, maybe 6? And the guest list is close to 300.

Typically, the more formal a wedding, the more attendants. The formality would also include number of guests, time of day, attire of the bridal party, and venue. So, if yours is very formal, then you probably have plenty of attendants. You could have up to 12, but yours would have to be a very formal affair.

The rule of thumb is at least one usher (groomsman) for every 50 guests. They help seat guests, so this makes sense.
