Our wedding is in less than 4 weeks and we still have not decided on the groom's attire. It is a semi-formal daytime wedding at an inn on the water. The groom and groomsmen will be wearing a black notch lapel 2 button tuxedo and groomsmen ties are striped with various shades of lighter to darker purple and black, to match the bridesmaids (who will wear a deep plum color. My dress is a light ivory color.

What color tie should groom wear? Ivory to match my dress or a simple black tie with no vest? Do they have to wear a vest? I cant find too many photos online of tuxedos with ties and no vests.

Please let me know what you think. I'm panicking as the wedding is less than a month away and I need advice asap!

Thanks in advance!

Well, sorry to throw a wrench into your plans, but a tux is formal evening attire. It isn't worn during the daytime, although some ignore this rule. Those who know better, do smirk though. A suit would have been the best attire.

At this point, you'll probably have to go with it though since you've already planned for them to wear these.

He/they really should wear either a vest or cummerbund.

I'm not the color/fashion expert, so I'm not sure about the color of the tie or bow tie. But, ivory seems best to me.

We are using tuxes because it was too expensive for everyone to buy a suit (the groomsmen did not have matching suits) and we could not really rent suits.
Do you really think it's silly to wear tuxes during the day? I haven't heard this before- oh well its much too late. I hope people don't think this looks silly.

The tuxedo is evening wear, after six. But you can choose a morning suit and I bet it's not too late to change your selection. Speak to your formalwear provider about this. They should have guided you toward the correct attire choice for your wedding.

i do realize the proper etiquette says morning suit for day, i just dont like the way they look. we were hoping that doing the tuxedos without the vest/cumberbund but rather just a tie would give a more casual look, almost like a suit. ive seen it done in other weddings and i thought it looked alright...

Only you can decide what to do after hearing what the proper attire is for your wedding.
