Give cash or check to wedding vendors? Paying wedding service providers and suppliers

Is it most proper to pay the minister, organist, soloist, wedding coordinator with cash in an envelope or a personal check?

In my experience cash in an envelope is preferred. Be very careful who you trust the envelopes with.

Nancy is the wedding planner with the most experience here, and I know she prefers cash, but it seems as though a check would be safer. I don't think there is a specific "right" way of doing this.

It is definitely a vendors preference on cash or check but your safest option is always to do the checks. If a vendor were to claim to NOT have received your payment, you would have no record of the money exchange if you were to give cash. If somehow the entire stack of envelopes was lost, you'd have to way of getting that money back, as you would if you just had to cancel the checks. If someone were to find an envelope with a check included, it is more than likely going to end up being returned to you. I would only have cash available for a vendor if you were paying them at a meeting, not a pile of envelopes with cash being carried around on your wedding day.

Cash is fine for tips though. Don't forget to tip if the service is exceptional!
