My fiance and I are inviting only parents, grandparents, and siblings to our wedding. Most of these people are older than 50yo, and only two of them enjoy dancing. The groom and I do not dance. Because of the small number, age, and preferences of the guests I do not feel a traditional wedding reception party is acceptable. However, I realize that I will need some activity following our ceremony. The guests are also non-athletic, most of the guests don't drink (although we do), do not enjoy karaoke, and many of the guests would probably not swim. We plan on a short, simple beach wedding at sunset. We would like to keep the budget small.
Do you have any suggestions for reception activities?

I see the only option is to do a nice cocktail reception with a musical trio or a good solo musician, playing the favorite tunes of each of the invited (find out in advance what their favorite tunes are). They will be very pleased; the few persons who enjoy dancing would dance, the ones who do enjoy alcoholic drinks, will enjoy them, the ones who don't - will certainly enjoy non-alcoholic cocktails (arrange with the bartender in advance). This way, good times will be had by all!

I think a small intimate dinner will be a wonderful idea. You can have a small jazz trio, a soloist, or even something simple and classic, like a harp player. You can make the dinner more special by having personalized meals, or traditional meals that reflect your and your fiances heritage. You can do personalized place cards, menus and also have a video made to present to your family. The video could include pictures and memories from both sides of your families. Since it will be small, you'll be able to make something that involves everyone. You could even make copies that guests could leave with as their wedding favors.
You don't have to do dancing to have a wonderful event after your ceremony. Good luck!

Great advice! Both are wonderful options. Also, please remember that your guests shouldn't be expected to open their wallets for any of this.
