Formal ballgown for garden wedding?

I have, in my opinion, a very big problem. Ive always wanted a huge satin ball gown, or maybe tulle, with a sweetheart neckline and minimal beading. My problem is, Ive fallen in love with a venue with a beautiful garden where the ceremony will be held. Is the garden setting too casual for a formal ball gown? Should I look for a more appropriate venue? Or is it possible and acceptable to have my dream wedding here in my dream wedding dress?

Dear MrsMulliken2,

All aspects of a wedding should match in formality. However, brides do tend to dress more formally than others--typical. That said, your dress is probably too formal. It is difficult to know for sure since some garden weddings can be somewhat formal. But, I would imagine that it is.

I would suggest either choosing a different dress or venue.

Off topic: your name is Mrs., but asking about a wedding. So, I thought I'd better add this little note. If this event is a vow renewal, you wouldn't wear a wedding dress. A gown could be appropriate if celebrating a bench mark anniversary (over 25 years) and the event is very formal. But the event still wouldn't appear to be a wedding.

Best wishes,
