Hello, I am working on a very slim budget. Under $5000, hopefully closer to $2000. At the reception space, the chairs are horrid. Black and red banquet with gray, brown, wood, folding chairs. Craziness. My question is, do I go with renting chairs? Or would my idea for covering them be okay. I don't need fancy, just presentable. My idea (because someone suggested sheets being cheaper than fabric) was to cut up sheets and drape them over just the backs of the chairs and down to the floor, leaving the seat of the chair and forward exposed. However, I felt that the seats of the chairs will not be seen because there will be butts or tables over them at pretty much all times. And of course I will add nice bows in my wedding colors to them. Please let me know if you think this is okay. It will cost $100 as compared to $300 for renting chairs. If I rented, the chairs would be the most expensive thing at my wedding!

DIY wedding chair covers?

Your idea sounds very creative, however, I don't know how it would actually turn out. I work with clients who are on a budget and I tell them all the same thing, instead of doing something the "cheap" way, just don't do it. It would be safer for your guests to think you just had some "ugly" banquet chairs (not your fault) than it would be for them to wonder why you have sheets thrown over the chairs. Dedicate the $100 you would have spent on making something else at your event $100 nicer (i.e. spend a little more on making your centerpieces look nicer, than trying to use that $100 on making your chairs look different).
