I have a bit of an unusual situation that has got me stumped. I met my biological a couple of years ago, after not seeing her since I was 5 years old, and also met my younger half sister who I was close to back then as well. My sister and I reconnected and have formed a pretty strong relationship, however my mother is more drama then she's worth, recovering "again" from drugs and all sorts of other things. I do not really have a relationship with my mother, nor with my other half siblings whom I have only seen/talked to a couple of times- there are 10 of them.

I would love to include or at least invite my sister to my wedding (I grew up an only child, so she is the only sister figure I have ever had and we have become quite close). The problem is, I do not wish I invite my biological mother or other younger siblings. It would cause unnecessary drama with my family and be hurtful to my dad and grandparents, who raised me. Can I invite one sibling, but not the others in this case?

Dear Cupcakes,

Yes, in this case you can invite only the one sister. You don't really know the rest of them, so there's nothing wrong with inviting the only one with whom you are close. And of course you don't have to invite your biological mother.

Best,
