After the ceremony we are going to leave and come back later to the reception area where typically couples are announced as man and wife to thunderous applause and noise. I want to try to minimize the noise and some of the obnoxious cheering. How can we enter the reception room without this type of noise? Do we have to somehow just quietly slip in without being announced? Have you ever heard of this approach?
Thanks.

Entering reception room without lots of noise?

Speak to your DJ and ask that you refrain from announcing the bridal part and bridal couple. I'm sure he will guide you to do what will work best. Also speak to your banquet manager.

I have several couples this year who have opted out of the "announcement" part of the reception. The simple solution to this is when the guests are being asked to be seated, the bride and groom will also just go into the reception with their guests and sit down for dinner. You'll have to expect that when people see you in the crowd they are going to want to stop you and talk with you, so allow for some extra time for seating. It shouldn't be an issue of any type but you'll want to make sure the reception moves along, since normally the announcement part is what gets things started.

I agree with the excellent advice. You could also include a receiving line to greet your guests. This could be done directly after the wedding and before the reception.
