My son is a Marine Reservist and he and his fiancee' were planning their wedding when he unexpectedly received Orders that he is being deployed to Afghanistan for 13 months. He leaves in a month. That being said, they are getting married in three weeks - a ceremony and luncheon for immediate family only. They want to have a Reception when he gets back.
When is it appropriate to give them a gift - now or wait until the Reception? I am being asked this question by my family.
Many thanks for your advice!!

When to give wedding gifts For ceremony or reception
#2
Dear Mom of a Marine -
Since the wedding (ceremony) is the gift giving event, gifts should be sent to the home of the bride before the wedding. Gifts should not be expected of reception guests (though most guests will send a gift anyway). It is usually expected that a reception will take place within one year of the wedding. In your case, I'm sure your guests will allow you the extra month.
Thanks to all of you for the sacrifices you make for us. I wish your son a safe tour and safe arrival back home to celebrate.
