We're getting married at a hotel and get to use the entire floor for the ceremony. I was thinking since its such a nice area we can have everyone line up after ceremony before reception to throw petals for send off. Especially since after the reception we will all be going off to another spot for more fun. Is this a stupid idea, does it not make sense?

It's a great idea, but make sure the hotel is aware and will do the clean-up. Petals can be slippery and accidents happen.

I agree with the previous post. There are several sites/wedding locations that forbid the use of flower petals so you will definitely want to check first.
The first question would be how will your guests get the petals for throwing. Then, you will also want to make sure your guests are aware of when to throw the petals. There have been many times when guests have been given things like bubbles and flower petals to throw but then never throw them because they weren't aware of the appropriate time.
