What to wear to boyfriends cousins wedding?

Hello, I've been invited along with my boyfriend (of 4 years) to his cousin's wedding. They're a young couple in their 20s having the wedding and reception at a classy golf club (Hope Island, QLD). It's spring here in Australia and the wedding starts at 3pm.

My boyfriend's family has gone through a lot of effort buying new outfits for themselves and that leaves me feeling quite out of place. I personally do not want to spend much money but in saying that I do have a little black dress I am considering (and have attached a photo of it and shoes Id wear with it). I'm 21 and a size 8, it sits just above the knee, is very tight fighting and has a bit of a plunge neck showing a bit of cleavage. I'm worried that this dress may be too "sexy" for a wedding but my boyfriend insists that its fine.

I would love your opinion please on what would be appropriate.

Thank you so much!

If you feel the dress is too sexy and low cut, how about teaming it with a statement necklace so that they eyes are drawn to your neckline? If you're worried about cleavage you could also team the dress with a pashmina or a silky wrap loosely draped over your shoulders. I think the dress is very elegant too and you are young so you can carry it off.

You can make a dress like that as formal or informal as you like. The accessories make all the difference to the final look. Make sure your hair and make up are styled for the day too!

Hope you have a lovely time!

I agree with Joyce, she lists some great ways to minimize the "sexy" of the dress. Also, since the wedding is before 6:00 pm, you can pair the dress with a fabulous hat. No matter what you do, wear it with confidence.

I agree. As long as you draw the eye from distractions, you should be fine. I love the idea of a hat as well. Hats are very popular now.

If you're really feeling uncomfortable think of it as an excuse to get a new dress. You can find some great buys in local consignment shops, on ebay and many such internet sites.

If you want to wear the dress (and not raise the parents' eyebrows) consider a less "sexy" shoe and opt for a shrug or bolero in a coordinating color.
