Same anniversary/wedding date as friend?

I recently was telling a friend about the date in September that my fiancé and I were planning to get married. She was upset and told us that we could not use that date because it was her and her boyfriend's anniversary. These two have just been dating, they are not engaged and have no plans to marry; her boyfriend says he never wants to get married. She says she's not even sure that he's "the one" but if they do get married, they want to get married on "their anniversary" (the date of their first make out session, I believe) so that they don't have to remember another date.
She also said that we had to have our wedding before early September because she "might" be attending graduate school next year and didn't want to stress about travelling when she first started a semester. One reason I chose the first date is because it was over Labor Day weekend, so it would be easier for my family and friends to get off work to travel out of the country.
I really thought the date we selected worked out really well for the season in the country in which we will wed, was a good time for us (because we will be in grad school but it doesn't start until late September and want to take our honeymoon before classes start) and was a good frame for engagement.
Is it rude to select a wedding date that is on the dating anniversary of a friend who "might" use it as her wedding anniversary some day in far future?

No, it isn't considered rude to select a wedding date that is the same as your dating couple's anniversary, or anyone's anniversary for that matter. Your friend is the one being rude and also selfish. It's always nice to try to accommodate your guests but her demands are way over the top.

You should go ahead and select the date that is best for you, your groom and your families. Of course, you would never intentionally select the same wedding date as a family member or close friend but if you know no other weddings being performed that day then you are being perfectly proper.

If your friend questions you, simply suggest that she and her boyfriend take the opportunity to attend your wedding and celebrate, not only your wedding day, but their own anniversary (free of charge I might add [:)]).
