H2B has a dear friend who happens to be a professional photographer. He does not specialize in wedding photos. We are having a smallish (50 people) wedding/reception in one location. Said friend will most certainly be invited to the wedding. H2B feels it OK to ask he take a few photos - we are not looking at creating a wedding album. I feel it wrong to impose tasks on a guest and that it may impact his comfort and enjoyment of the event. Should I rely on his knowledge of and friendship with this person, or am I right that this would be wrong?

[;)] Hi there,

It is not wrong to ask, however very thoughtful of you to show concern for the photographer/guest's feelings. The worst they can say is "no", but on the other hand he/she may be very flattered, and happy to do some photos.

My husband and I are pro-wedding photographers, and we will be attending my brother's wedding late this month. Early on, however we made it clear that we wanted to enjoy the day, and simply be guests. We are rarely given the opportunity to be guests, and enjoy the day. Granted, we will have a difficult time watching another photographer work, but we figure we will have enough to do by helping in other ways. This is our own personal decision however. We love what we do, and may not be able to resist taking some candids at the reception.

I suggest you ask, but in a way that is presented as a non-pressure to your photographer friend. Most photographers who truly love shooting would feel as if the task was not a burden. Be sure to make it clear that you want them to do whatever feels most comfortable to them that day.

Good luck!
