My fiance and I are getting married next May and hope to leave for our honeymoon within a few days of the wedding. We have narrowed it down to a few honeymoon ideas, and know a few things we'd like to do while we're there. We need to keep our honeymoon under $5000 for 10 to 11 days, leaving out of NJ. We are seriously considering spending five days in one place, then traveling somewhere else nearby for the next five days. (Example: Tortola and St. Thomas)

Things we'd like to do:
Have a room/villa, right on the beach.
Some adventure: parasailing, zip-lining, horseback riding, etc.
A place that is safe, with few/no "sketchy" areas that might make us feel less secure when out at night.
Affordable luxury
Romantic
Spa/couples massages

Places we're considering:
St. Lucia
St. Barts
St. Martin
St. Thomas
Tortola
Antigua
Hilo, Hawaii
Kauai, Hawaii

With all these things in mind, what are your best recommendations for location, areas of islands, resort/hotel/villa ideas, and activities.

Also, of these eight places, what two or three would you recommend most highly?

Thanks so much!

The split vacation is a very good idea when you have 9 or more days for a vacation.

St. Lucia is a favorite island of mine with very little sketchy areas. Depending on the style of resort you like on what I would recommend. [ul] [li]Rendezvous - couples only - all-inclusive - has some great oceanfront cottages (as well as regular rooms)They have a spa and are sister properties to The Body Holiday. [li]Sandals - couples only - all inclusive - more commercial than the other - three properties in St. Lucia with exchange privileges- offers villas on mountain and by beach some with plunge pools (the ones with the plunge pool may eat up the budget though [li]La Dera - adults only - not all inclusive - a very unique boutique style resort for the discriminating traveler - very luxurious - fabulous rooms with three walls atop a mountain[/li][/ul]

Antigua is a great choice to pair with St. Lucia. It is a very short flight away. I think there is a ferry too but it is more hassle. This island offers things that St. Lucia does not like gambling. Junby Bay or Pineapple would be my resort recommendations.

St. Barths is also a good pair. Not a very touristy island. Lots of fcelebrity sightings. Manapany Cottages are the way to go here. Great exotic resort.

St. Lucia would be the good starting place and choosing either Antigua are St. Barths as the companion would offer a wonderful honeymoon with all the activities you mentioned and more.

Hawaii is a great choice and Kauai is a great island to include they call it the Garden Island. It offers some amazing views. There is a Four Seasons and a Ritz that are divine, but if you want a truly more villa type vacation you may want to think about Maui. It is a very romantic island and I would HIGHLY recommend the Kapalua Villas and Homes. That is a vacation that will give you peace and serenity but you are only a few minutes by car of night life and shopping.

It is really hard to give you the detailed answer this decision deserves, but I hope I have given you a little guidance.

Contact a travel agent, preferably one that does alot of honeymoons and let them assist you. May is a popular time in either of the destinations. You are a little early now for making these reservations, but by November you should have something on deposit.

Congratulations and best wishes.
