Who pays for the bridesmaids dresses

I have received mixed advice... Who pays for the bridesmaid and MOH dresses? Someone told me that if I have a set color scheme that I should pay for all the dresses. However, someone else told me that THEY pay for their own dresses... A little help?

The attendants pay for their own dresses, usually. Sometimes the bride will, if she can.
