My daughter is getting married in May. The MOH lives several hours away and has not mentioned hosting a shower, nor has any relative of the Bride. A shower was hosted by sisters of the Groom for the MOG's side of the family. Is it proper etiquette for the MOB to host a shower for the Bride's side of the family in her honor?

Dear Rega,

We have numerous posts concerning this. It might be best to read them. Just searching for mothers hosting showers would reveal quite a bit. In any case, they don't, or at least they shouldn't. Showers are an optional prewedding party that shouldn't be hosted by family unless that person is also an attendant. So, unless the sisters were bridesmaids, they shouldn't have hosted a shower. It is viewed poorly.

A friend or one of your daughter's bridesmaids would have to offer to host a shower for your daughter. If no one hosts one, there should be none. These parties aren't really needed these days anyway. Many are viewed as double gift dipping opportunities for the couple.

Please read about the etiquette involved.

Best wishes,
